MONTREAL - A woman is fighting for her life after being struck by a falling branch in a Montreal suburb.

Montreal police say a 76-year-old woman was seriously injured when a branch fell on her head in Côte-Saint-Luc, an on-island suburb.

Firefighters, paramedics and police were dispatched to the scene at about 12:50 p.m. near the corner of Queen Mary Road and Macdonald Avenue.

When first responders arrived, the woman was unconscious and a local resident was performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

She was transported to hospital in critical condition with a serious head injury.

Montreal police say it does not appear to be a criminal incident, but officers remain on scene to assist in the event of a coroner's investigation.
