BEIJING - Canada's Mirela Rahneva took home the bronze medal in women's skeleton on Friday as the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation World Cup season got underway.

Rahneva, 35, returned to Beijing's Yanqing ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Sliding Centre for the first time since the 2022 Winter Olympics

The Ottawa resident finished third on Friday with a total time of two minutes and 3.99 seconds. Germany's Tina Hermann, the defending World Cup champion, captured gold in 2:03.81, while China's Zhao Dan too silver in 2:03.83.

Securing her 14th World Cup medal, Rahneva aims to improve on last season's third-place finish in the overall standings.

Fellow ºÚÁϳԹÏÍøs Jane Channell and Hallie Clarke placed 12th and 15th, respectively, on Friday.

The World Cup circuit continues on Dec. 8 in La Plagne, France
