MONTREAL - Advance polls are open across 1,100 Quebec municipalities, just one week shy of the provincewide Nov. 2 vote.
Polls will be open today between noon and 8 p.m., but many citizens have not received their voter information card due to the latest Canada Post strike.
Voter participation has been decreasing in municipal elections in Quebec with 39 per cent of Quebecers voting in 2021, down from 45 per cent in 2017.
In Montreal, 3,200 poll workers will be on the job at 200 polling stations across the city on Sunday.Â
Also in Montreal, a pilot project is taking place at 16 post-secondary institutions, allowing students in universities and junior colleges eligible to vote to do so regardless of the borough in which they live.
On Saturday, about 1,200 Montrealers were also able to cast a ballot at home due to health reasons with teams deployed across the city, an effort reproduced in other larger cities like Quebec City and Sherbrooke.
On election day, Sunday, Nov. 2, polling stations will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. throughout Quebec.Â
